We have had a permanent site at Evergreen for 13 years. It just keeps getting better! We have never had a bad experience. We LOVE it!

Anonymous post on Saturday, April 27, 2013
My husband has been at Evergreen since 1965. We have had a camper there since 1994. We have enjoyed every minute. We have never been yelled at. We have never been offered drugs. I don't know of any favored seasonals. The staff has always treated us respectfully. Jim has known us for a long time and has been professional in all are dealings. We have seen the park change over the years and all of the changes have been positive. While you may think that money is the only motivator think about it people. They have from the middle of April to the end of September to make their money to feed your family for a year.
The park is clean. It offers many things to do every weekend. If you are bored, camping is not for you. The pool is clean, the beach is clean, the bathrooms are clean. The sites are clean.
There are rules. They are there for everybody. So everyone has a good time. They are not unreasonable.
We could not think of a better place to spend our time and we travel 150 miles one way to get there.
I agree about the WiFi. It could be a bit stronger.
You really couldn't do better for a family friendly experience.

I have camped at Evergreen many times through-out my child hood, starting at age 6, at one point my parents purchased a trailer and a permenant spot for several years! Yes, there ARE many drunken bafoons, but what do you expect? YOU'RE CAMPING, they're gonna get a little crazy!!! The point of camping is to live off the land, not play on your iPad for the love of God.. if you want luxury, get a cabin or possibly try The Dells. YES, there ARE drugs present, even 10 years ago when I was 13 I recall very clearly being offered marijuana.. amongst other things. YES, the owner CAN be VERRRY rude, especially toward children, but this is easily overlooked when you realize that a good majority of the permenant site children are a little on the bratty side. Jim does seem to favor certain permenant families, but this is all coming from the memory of an at the time 17 year old, and this is easily understood as he has had time to build relationships with those families. I was never bored and made friends with the "wrong" crowd, but, I had fun and I LOVED IT! The rules Do need to be a little more fairly enforced and those golf carts DEFINITLEY are an accident waiting to happen. Over all, I enjoyed it and have visited for a swim a few times since my parents sold the camper.

We have been going to Evergreen for seven years it keeps getting better.

I figured after reading that last review, it was time to post my most recent experience camping at Evergreen. If that previous person worked at Evergreen, it's quite possible I had the chance to meet you - unfortunately you didn't put your name to your post. We camped at Evergreen three times this year and had a great time each and every time.

The most recent was during the Halloween weekend. To start off, it was quite cold and our propane heat wasn't working as expected. I went to the office to see if they had any ideas and Jim pointed me to a part that may help repair my heater. Just in case that didn't do the trick, Tracy also borrowed my family a small heater that did the job perfectly since the part replacement wasn't the fix we had hoped it would be.

Next, since we actually take the time to sit with Jim and Tracy and get to know them, they knew my wife was very artistic. Since it was the Halloween weekend, my wife was asked to assist with the face painting and costumes. She really enjoyed helping out and the haunted house in the game room really turned out to be a hit. I felt like part of the family there at Evergreen. We did get a return favor for the time we spent helping with the preparations - something we did not expect, but it really appreciated.

All-in-all, considering it was a rather chilly weekend, we had an outstanding time and are sad to see the camping season has come to a close. We'll be back Memorial Weekend 2013!

Many thanks to Jim and Tracy for your efforts, as we see first hand how much work you put in to keeping Evergreen a pleasant experience for all.

It has been my experience not only with Jim and Tracy, but with life in general: if you take the time to get to know someone on a personal level, respect will follow. I get the feeling many people don't invest that time and it's unfortunate if you ask me.

Worked here during the summer of '11. The poor reviews are accurate on this site concerning the unprofessional behavior of the manager and/or owner. We, as employees, (OR AT LEAST I) did our best to make sure the campers felt welcome and had a good time, but our efforts were always thwarted by the rude, offensive, often obnoxious management. Employess are underpaid compared to the stress of working here everyday. The 15 year old kid watching the slide at the pool is getting paid the about same as the at least 18 year old at the concession stand. They cycle through employees all summer, every summer due to management's extremely poor leadership skills. They don't walk the talk. They don't demonstrate any values worth following. The constant negativity from the administrative manager keeps all the employees walking on eggshells. The owner is James Button. The administrative manager is Tracy Schroeder. If you feel like a staff employee is giving you a hard time, it's probably because Tracy or James just crushed their self esteem. I'm writing this review a year after my employment there because I still don't go a single day without thinking how degrading and unprofessional these people are. It is very possible to have a pleasent experience here, but be warned: all it takes is a confrontation with James or Tracy and it's all over. NOTE: James' wife is a sweetheart. I hope she does not feel this review is directed at her even though she is part-owner. Management there needs to change.

We love this campground. This will be our 3rd year going to Evergreen. Disregard the negative reviews that some people have left here. Most likely, a few bad apples, that are too uptight to ever be satisfied. We all know folks like that! This place is awesome for kids and adults, great beach and lake, gameroom, entertainment, pool, playgrounds, etc...Cannot wait to be back in August. This place books very quickly, I can atest to that, so maybe the negative reviews will keep 'others' away so I can get the cabin I want next year! Ha! Anyways, great place, we always stay in a cabin, and are treated with respect and helpfulness. Thanks Evergreen!

We recently went camping there this last memorial day weekend and had a blast. The staff members that helped us in the store greeted us with smiles and check in was a breeze. The park was maintained and clean and we were able to get set up in time to make it to the store for the Friday fish fry, which i would recommend to anyone. The weekend there was a dance which nice to unwind at but it was also nice that they had an on duty cop it allowed for me and my husband to feel safe throughout the night. Well besides the rain id have to say it was a great campground, with great staff, and great amenities. See you next year.

Our first camping trip of 2012 was one of the most fun we've had yet.

As usual, check-in was a breeze - they even stayed open late knowing all the campers had not yet checked in that night.

Evergreen has invested considerable money into the campground. They put up a nice building down on the beach, which I hope will turn into a place where you can purchase beverages, but for the time being it was great that they moved their rentals down to the beach. They also put up a tiki bar at the pool - very cool.

Another great addition was the wireless along the shoreline - that gets the beach houses better coverage, but also extends up to the campground at the top of the beach. I had AppleTV, my iPhones, iPad - all of them working great, which is nice for the kids when they are relaxing at night.

The prices are reasonable - you pay for what you want, but by no means do you have to purchase much if you pack right. The train ride is still a buck, ice/wood are reasonable, and we split the cost of a golf cart among four couples to make it a pretty acceptable $30 for the entire holiday weekend.

Bathrooms were clean as usual, the owner came and visited us a couple times to chat, the parks weren't overly crowded and the seasonals were nice folks.

We'll be back - sooner than later (next weekend at site 51!).

The beach is very nice and the pool was fun but a bit small for the size of the campground. The campground is very pricey...nickle and dime you for everything, but I guess thats to be expected and we allotted that in our vacation expenses. We didnt run into any problems with staff but did observe other campers that did. We camped next to a couple of campers that were actually SCREAMED at by staff, I assume the owner, due to the conversation between them. He even swore at them !!It was not handled in a professional manner as the screaming by the staff was more upsetting than the extrtemely minor offense. The "owner" even turned and started yelling at his staff...unbelieveable!!It also drew attention to the issue at hand...rather than it being dealt with maturely. We have been camping for over 20 years so we know what to expect at a campground...we have never seen anything handled like this. On the other hand, the seasonal campers were very nice, offered us some firewood when we ran out. The bathrooms were pretty clean for the amount of people using them. Wouldnt stay here again, just because of the rudeness of the staff, especially the owner.

I am a seasonal here and have been for a while. My nieces and nephews are here, my mother and father in-law, brother-in law and cousins and their children (as well as many great friends). This is a great family place and never have I, (or anyone in my family) ever heard of or encountered a drug problem here. At night, it does get a little rowdy (especially in the "weekender" section), but that is part of camping, and it is NOT anything out of control. People are generally respectful and cautious of others.

There are A LOT of children here, and sometimes I wonder where their parents are (especially at the pool), so for me this is a parenting issue NOT an Evergreen staff issue.

Speaking of staff, I have never run into a problem with either the owner (Jim Button) or the manager (Tracy). They do their best to please everyone, but apparently some people are just never pleased. The younger staff members are also generally very friendly and will go out of their way to help you.

There IS free Wi-Fi, and it IS at the pool and store...remember, you're camping (the same with the burned out lightbulbs etc).

There is a lot to do here, there is a great lake beach, pool, kiddie pool, water pad, water slide, mini golf, chippy train, DJ at the pool, dances on some saturday nights, paddle boat rental, biking etc.

I would recommend Evergreen, don't be scared by the reviews (which appears to be the same person or two)... Come and decide for yourself!

Emily (Seasonal...NOT staff)

NOT A FAMILY CAMPGROUND ... People drinking and driving on the golf carts and getting wasted, and nothing done about it ... Tons of drugs on the campground in permanent parents trailers (weed, cocaine, shrooms), my son got offered many times openly ... A place where Alcoholic's and Drug Addict's and Dealers feel safe and at home with other Alcoholic's and Drug Addict's ... Owner Jim yells in woman, men and childrens faces, he is rude and says whatever he wants, seen him a little tippy at night .... If you are a permanent camper there, you are trapped, Jim charges over $400 to install trailer, over $400 to uninstall trailer, or 7% if you sell your trailer on his campsite ... You get charged a surcharge for electric as a permanent camper, double then what you use ... Once you past the gate of the campground, you are in Jimmy's world, owner does not want outside police or outside authority called for any reason, he will yell at you and tell you, you should have came to him, he is the authority of this place ... No supervision at all at the pool for safety of the children and families, extreme dangerous horseplay at times by long time permanent children who have no parental guidance, a child did drown one year, but thank God someone was there to revive them back ... Do NOT think this is a family campground, it is NOT, it a place that should be stayed far away from .... Don't be afraid to post here, as I can see, your email and identity will be protected, but like I care if mine is or not.

First off I want to state I am in no way related nor do I personally know the owner or his staff. I do however want to say that our family camps at several campgrounds in Wisconsin and we always return to Evergreen. We have young children and the pool and beach area are awesome. We too like our WiFi but hey it's camping what the hell did people do when no one offered it? Get over youself and stop making accusations about people just because they happen to like camping there. I am sure just as everyone else the owner and his staff have a right to get upset at a situation that is out of his control such as the power outages(which for your information was not only county wide but state wide). They did the best they could in the situation at hand. So to you all who want to speak poorly of the campground thats fine but I bet there are thousands who love it they just don't say it as everyone knows it's only the ones with bad experiences who will talk. And one more thing, the way you speak about others being related etc. I bet they had a resaon to be rude to you and I hope you are not in the customer service industry as I would hate to be on the other end of your service.

Posted by on Saturday, October 15, 2011
Of course the WiFi doesn't work all over the campground - it's huge. But it works by the restrooms over on 4th (if I recall 413 was the site we stay at a lot) and we also got WiFi up at 31, which is at the top of the beach. Pretty good radius there and I have spoke to them about increasing the range. If you know anything about WiFi you will know a couple routers will not cover an entire campground of this size.

As for the other reviews, many are in regards to the weekend where the power went out due to that huge storm. We were there (up on 31) and obviously they have no control over the power grid. It is what it is - but I didn't expect any money back. It's camping. Some felt otherwise.

And rest assured - our respective family trees to not intersect. My family and I have camped at about 20 Wisconsin campgrounds over the past three summers and we just so happen to like Evergreen.

Thanks for your input - there are bound to be opinions on both sides of the fence and that's why I put this site together.

Maybe I shouldn't have posted as anonymous (Demetra) as I WAS a seasonal camper at Evergreen until Sept 24 2011. Yes, just a month ago. And I can tell you from FIRST HAND experience that the owner and manager of this so call establishment are not worthy of handling such a big responsiblity. They are rude and very much lacking customer service. Believe me I CAN AFFORD to camp at this facility but with how you are treated by them, there is no amount of money that would ever make us want to go back there. Their WiFI does NOT work all over the campsite. The store and the pool area are the only two places it works. They like to put the "laws" in place but only enforce them when it is convienent for them. I have brought friends that are avid campers and they were amazed at how much you have to spend to camp there but rules are not enforced.
I can tell again by your comments that you are as rude as the owner. Maybe you are not the owner but related somehow I'm sure. If you have camped there at all and have needed them for any reason you would know how mean this man can be. And Allen... from the looks of the reviews regarding this campsite, I am not alone (check out other review pages that are NOT sponsered by you). I would NEVER write such comments if they were not true. Its hard giving this place any sort of acknowledgement good or bad but when I feel this strongly about something, I will make sure that everyone knows about it.

Evergreen is great! We stayed there again on Labor Day weekend. We were even there for the Huge storm on Friday morning with 70 mph winds. I was scared due to falling trees, power lines but thats mother nature and not the campgrounds fault! I believe the campground did the best it could with what had happened; even as far as getting a big generator hooked up to at least run the water for the restrooms. Also when I grew up camping we never had power or running water; theres nothing better than going back to the basics for great quality family time! We will return again!

The campground would be one of the best in the state if it wasnt for the staff and owners. Money hungary greedy people that only care about how much money they can get out of you. we have been to the campsite and new the parents of the owner now who used to run the campground. way more fun and relaxed back then. the owner jim button has got in our face on more than one occasion over the years camping there and had his rent a cops screaming at our kids who were 6 and 8 years old. If you want to have fun, dont count on it on your own site. they want you to go down to the pavilion and spend money to have fun. Wont be back until new owners take over.

There are very few experiences so bad I haven't been willing to give a business a second chance. However, my visit to Evergreen Camp & Resorts is one of those instances. 2 cottages were rented for 4days/3nights with the intent of spending a wonderful family vacation/reunion based on the information & imagery from their website as well as about a half a dozen calls by several relatives to ask questions, clarify & confirm exactly what was included to insure appropriate expectations were set and we were prepared. The cottages were nowhere near as nice as were pictured & described. I would guess at least 10 years out of date. The carpeting was stained, faded, worn & smelly. The walls were beat up. There was a pervasive musty/moldy smell throughout both cottages. The sleeping accommodations did not match what was listed on 1 cottage. The amenities "included" were insufficient at best and some completely not delivered on at all. Why would there ever not be fully working appliances, lights & remotes to insure your guests don't ever feel annoyed & frustrated? "free wifi" should mean more than just only in the store area & if you do have restrictions they should be clearly stated. When these issues were brought to the staffs attention, they were unwilling and/or unable to resolve to our satisfaction. Some appeared to not care, really did not listen & just referred us to fill in the comment cards. Then others were outright belligerent, actively arguing about what items were stocked - or in this case not stocked - in the cottages. Why would you not have a checklist & policies in place to insure adequate preparation? We are paying guests at your "resort" and deserve a minimum of courtesy and respect. That is not an unreasonable request in my book. But the deal-breaker here was the attitude & behavior of the manager & owner when we actually did turn in our comment cards. NEVER have I been treated so badly & offensively by anyone who claimed to want to stay in business.

We too were at Evergreen for Labor Day Weekend 2011, and what a ride it was! From wind, to rain to a whole heck of a lot of darkness it was one for the camping journal!

I do want to list a formal complaint about the power though, as I am sure that the campground just turned it off to see how many people would complain. You know how those greedy campgrounds are, they probably figured if they shut us off, then we would go spend money in their game room… oh wait, there was no power there either. I bet they thought we would do their mini golf… but the lights were off so we couldn’t either! Perhaps it was so we would go buy products in their store, but because there was no power to run my credit card! Can you believe the nerve of them, to shut the power off on the second busiest camping/money-making weekend of the summer? And then to try to raise our spirits and have that dance as soon as the power came back on, unbelievable!

Come on people, Evergreen had no control over the power situation! When I was in Wild Rose on Sunday morning, there were still people 3 roads over that didn’t have power from the storm on Friday. There were people in Appleton that didn’t get power back until Tuesday!

There are a lot of things that are within an owner’s control, but this is not one of them! When I was checking out on Monday, I saw how rude the people were treating the staff. I was embarrassed for them, and apologized as I approached the counter.

Thank you to Evergreen Campsites Staff, Management and Ownership, for another pleasurable weekend.
-Happy Place

We visit Evergreen frequently and they are always very well staffed and friendly. This past weekend was definitely a challenge given the two power outages, but they cannot control the weather or availability of power to the campground. Most families and campers we were surrounded by made the best of the holiday weekend despite the outages.

For those families that expected some sort of refund, I hope they don't return quite honestly. First, they apparently haven't done much camping if they are relying on electricity and showers to make ends meet - perhaps they should read the weather forecast and pack accordingly. Second, you can't expect the campgrounds to reimburse you for things that are out of their control.

Great time - we'll be back... hopefully this year yet!

The campground and amenities are nice but the staff is very rude. We rented a cabin and didn't have power or water for 2 days on and off. We ended up leaving early because it was unpleasant as we didn't pack for no power or water. I experience the staff providing an expect for the family ahead of us in line but told us too bad. We paid $330 for a 3 day cabin rental and we stayed for 12 hours. The staff doesn't abide by thier own rules.

Evergreen Campground was great! Our family enjoyed all the amenities; the train, mini-golf, and the waterpark. The waterpark is great for children/adults of all ages! The park and bathrooms are cleaned daily and kept very nice. This is a wonderful place to camp and we will return.

Beautiful campground with a great assortment of activities for both children and adults!

This campsite is the simply awesome. The swimming pool makes you feel like you are at a Caribbean resort and hosts a DJ on Saturday afternoons. There is also a nice sandy beach with two slides out in the water - a favorite of the kids and crazy adults! They have train rides for a dollar with complementary popcorn, mini golf, a great convenience store with everything you need, affordable wood, clean bathrooms, and much more. My family and I will definitely be making this our primary camping hot spot for years to come.
